Action SA Parliament Caucus leader Athol Trollip says former Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa must deal with his corruption case before coming back to Parliament.
Kodwa who is expected to be sworn in as a Member of Parliament tomorrow, resigned from his position as minister earlier this month after being formally charged with corruption.
The charges follow recommendations in the State Capture Commission Report implicating him in corruption for alleged bribery amounting to R 1.6 Million.
Trollip says if the ANC was a responsible party it would have told its member to deal with his court case before returning to Parliament.
He says, “The charges themselves are very, very serious and that’s why the ANC, for example, established this Integrity Commission. So if there are serious charges and allegations, it’s a prima facie case against him and he resigned in the last term, why bring him back in this term until he has sorted out his innocence until proven guilty? Go and sort yourself out. We saw for 20 years with President Zuma always saying he wanted his day in court, never had his day in court and stood to proclaim his innocence. Go to court. Sort the issue out. Take responsibility for your actions.”
