MetSolar completes its largest rooftop solar installation in South Africa – 4,785 panels and over 2MW generation capacity for CTP Printers Johannesburg

MetSolar recently completed its largest rooftop solar installation in South Africa, which comprises nearly 5,000 panels and over 2MW of generation capacity.

This massive solar system is now helping power one of the country’s largest printing companies, supplementing their power consumption with cleaner, cheaper power.

MetSolar was approached to deliver a turnkey solar power solution, including engineering, procurement, construction, monitoring and maintenance.

MetSolar gladly accepted the challenge – and put together a truly impressive system.

Solar system setup

MetSolar started the project by analysing the company’s power requirements.

As it is a major printer of retail and commercial advertising material, it has a lot of machinery with high power requirements.

The solution based off of consumption data and available space ended up with a 2.153MW grid-tied supplementary solar system installed on the roof of the company’s extensive production, administration and warehousing facilities.

The two parties agreed that this would suit the company’s needs, and MetSolar got to work.

MetSolar installed 4,785 Longi 450W solar panels across the company’s production and warehouse roofing to produce the massive power output necessary to power its large number of machines.

It combined this with 2,393 optimisers to maximise the power generation of each solar panel, while providing extensive monitoring visibility across the system.

MetSolar completed the system with 17 x 100kW SolarEdge inverters and 70km of DC cabling to feed the clean renewable power to the inverters for self-consumption.

Extensive benefits

With this impressive solar system installed, the company can now generate over 4.297 million kWh of power per year for its own consumption.

This massively reduces its reliance on the Eskom grid for its day-to-day operations, and truly shows the commitment from CTP Printers Johannesburg to maximize use of clean and renewable energy.

The cost-saving is directly linked to its solar system, allowing the company to easily calculate the return on investment the solar power provides each year.

Furthermore, the MetSolar system reduces the company’s annual CO2 emissions by a massive 4,200 tonnes, ensuring it reaches its sustainability goals.

Your business can benefit from MetSolar’s high quality, large-scale solar installation expertise.
